Canaan Valley Half Marathon

The Canaan Valley Half Marathon, 10K & 5K is an annual spring road race held entirely within Canaan Valley Resort State Park in Davis, West Virginia, high in the Potomac Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains. Organized by Back Hollow Running Company (which launched the event in 2018 as the Canaan Valley Running Company), the races run on both Saturday and Sunday of race weekend, with the Half Marathon and 10K starting at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9:00 a.m. each day; runners can enter either single day or take on the two-day 'Conquer the Valley Challenge,' which pairs a shorter Saturday distance with the Half Marathon on Sunday. All three courses use the park's paved roads and golf-cart paths, with the Half Marathon looping the course's Front 9 and Back 9 for roughly 820 feet of climbing, the 10K covering about 436 feet, and the 5K about 190 feet. Aid stations are spaced every 2-3 miles along each route. The course closes 4 hours after the start, and half marathoners must reach the mile 12 mark within 3.5 hours. Every finisher takes home a medal and a hat, and finishers over 21 get a complimentary beer alongside post-race snacks. Kids can join a free-standing half-mile Kids Race on Saturday afternoon. Registration is open for the 9th annual edition, April 24-25, 2027, with entries transferable or deferrable through April 15 but non-refundable after that.
