The Lowdown
The Covered Bridges Half Marathon is a point-to-point road race held on the first Sunday in June in the Upper Valley of Vermont. Runners start at the Saskadena Six ski area in Pomfret and finish at Dewey Mills Field in Quechee, passing through Woodstock and crossing several of the region's covered bridges along the way. Course highlights include the Taftsville and Quechee covered bridges, the Ottauquechee River, and a climb known as Heartbreak Hill after mile 8, with live bands and water stops at most miles. Runners park near the finish and ride a free bus to the start. Entry is first-come, first-served rather than by lottery, and the race has a strict 3-hour course time limit. Organized by CBHM Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the race has raised more than $80,000 for local youth groups, nonprofits and recreation departments.
