The Lowdown
The Dana Point Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning tradition at Dana Point Harbor in Orange County, California, organized by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce. Held for the 49th consecutive year in 2026, it is regarded as the sixth-largest turkey trot in the nation, with recent editions selling out roughly a week before race day. Runners and walkers choose from a 10K starting at 7:00 a.m., 5K waves at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:00 a.m., a 10K+5K Combo, or a non-timed Kids' 1-Mile Gobble Wobble for ages 2-12 at 10:30 a.m. The USA Track & Field-certified, fast and flat course runs along Dana Point Harbor and past Doheny State Beach, with the 10K offering $1,000 first-place prize money for the top male and female finishers. The event also features a costume contest, a health and fitness expo, and free race-day shuttles, with proceeds benefiting local charities through the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce.
