The Lowdown

Run to Feed the Hungry is Sacramento's Thanksgiving Day tradition, a 5K and 10K run/walk that raises money for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Held annually since 1994, it is the largest Thanksgiving Day fun run in the United States: the 2025 edition sold out for the first time in the event's history, with 34,050 registered runners. The 10K starts at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 9:00 a.m. from a shared loop course that begins on J Street just west of the Sacramento State University entrance and winds through the tree-lined streets of East Sacramento; runners choose their distance on race morning rather than at registration. Every dollar raised funds three meals for local families and seniors facing hunger, and 2026 is the first year every finisher is chip-timed at no extra cost.
