The Lowdown
DrechtStadLoop is an annual road race held each November in Dordrecht, the South Holland island city where the Rhine, Meuse and Maas rivers meet. Founded in 2006 as the Drechtstedenloop, the event moved to a single-island course in 2013 and has grown into one of the largest road races in the Randstad, drawing roughly 2,800 individual runners plus corporate relay teams. The Atletiekunie-certified half marathon, currently sponsored by Mulder Van Mill, starts and finishes at Statenplein in Dordrecht's historic center. The course runs through the old town for about 7 km before heading out along dikes and cycle paths beside the Nieuwe Dordtse Biesbosch nature reserve and the Wantij waterway, passing the Kyck over den Dyck windmill, then returns to the center. The flat, largely traffic-free route has produced age-group world records, including Jeannine Liebrand's 1:36:14 W70 half marathon mark set in 2024. Net time limit is 2 hours 30 minutes. The race benefits Albert Schweitzer Hospital's research into pediatric concussion care.
