Edmonton Marathon
The Lowdown
The Edmonton Marathon, currently sponsored as the Servus Edmonton Marathon, has been part of the city's running community for 35 years and bills itself as "The Friendly Marathon" for its welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. The flat, fast 42.2 km course is a certified Boston Marathon qualifier, starting and finishing at the Edmonton Convention Centre and tracing historic neighbourhoods, downtown streets, and the North Saskatchewan River Valley, with only about 31 meters between the course's highest and lowest points. Runners must reach the halfway mark on Jasper Avenue by 10:00 a.m. (three hours after the 7:00 a.m. start) or they are switched to a half marathon finish. Race weekend also includes a half marathon, an Army 10K, a Family 5K Fun Run, and a Kids 1K Run, drawing entrants of all experience levels, with the finish line festival held right on Jasper Avenue in front of the Convention Centre.
