The Lowdown

The Gent Marathon runs through the historic centre of Ghent on Sunday 21 March 2027, Belgium's spring marathon and the tenth edition of the event. Run as the Sofico Gent Marathon, it starts on Zuiderlaan beside the Topsporthal and finishes inside the hall after a lap of the track. The course passes St. Michael's Bridge, the Belfry, City Hall and Korenmarkt, follows the Leie and the Ringvaart, and in 2027 runs through the Planet Group Arena football stadium. The 2026 edition filled all 5,650 marathon places, and more than 20 percent of the field travelled from abroad. The marathon starts at 9:00 in waves and has a six-hour limit, with refreshment stations about every 5 km. Entry fees rise in four tiers from EUR 90 to EUR 115 as registrations fill, and online sign-up before 22 February 2027 gets a personalised bib number.
