The Lowdown

Halve van Haarlem is an annual half marathon held each September in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands, organized by SportSupport Kennemerland and locally sponsored as the Run2Day Halve van Haarlem. The 2026 edition, on Sunday 27 September, is the 40th running of the event and starts and finishes on the Grote Markt, Haarlem's historic main square. Alongside the half marathon, the event offers a 10K, a 5K, youth distances, and a corporate BusinessRun.

The half marathon course leaves the city center through the wooded Overveen district before crossing the dune landscape between Kraantje Lek and Zandvoort, then returns along the Zeeweg and Houtmanpad back into Haarlem. The mix of flat city streets and rolling coastal dunes has made the race one of the most popular road races in North Holland; the 2023 edition drew a record roughly 1,700 half marathon starters among nearly 4,000 participants across all distances. The course record of 1:01:09 was set in 1995 by Kenyan runner Benson Masya.

The half marathon has a 15K checkpoint cutoff of 2 hours and an overall finish cutoff of 2 hours 45 minutes. The 2026 half marathon sold out ahead of race day, though the 10K, 5K, and youth distances remained open through late registration. All finishers receive a Run2Day Halve van Haarlem medal.
