Jerusalem Marathon
The Lowdown
The Jerusalem Marathon (currently the Winner Jerusalem Marathon under its title sponsor, the Israeli pharmacy chain Winner) is an AIMS-certified international marathon through the historic heart of Jerusalem. Revived in 2011, the race has grown into one of the largest running events in Israel, drawing nearly 40,000 participants across all its distances in recent editions. The 42.2 km marathon course starts at Hamagbit Square near the Knesset and Israel Museum and finishes at the southern end of Sacher Park via the Valley of the Cross, passing landmarks including the President's House, Ammunition Hill, the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University, the Old City's Armenian Quarter and Zion Gate, the Sultan's Pool, and the Emek Refaim neighborhood. The course is notably hilly, with roughly 556 m of total elevation gain on the full marathon (327 m on the half), reflecting Jerusalem's rolling terrain at around 800 m elevation. Held in mid-to-late March, the race benefits from Jerusalem's mild, dry early-spring climate. Title sponsorship of the event has changed hands over the years (it has also been run under the Continental and other sponsor names), so it is listed here under its sponsor-neutral name.
