Kelowna Apple Marathon
The Lowdown
The Kelowna Apple Marathon is the marquee running event of the Apple Race Series, held each September in Kelowna, British Columbia, along the shores of Okanagan Lake. The race traces its roots to the Okanagan International Marathon, founded in 1995, which returned in 2024 as the Apple Race Series after a hiatus; title sponsor Argus Properties signed a three-year naming agreement in 2024, with Kal Tire as presenting sponsor. The Athletics Canada-certified course starts and finishes in Kelowna City Park and is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Marathoners run two loops through downtown Kelowna and along the Abbott Street bike path beside the lake, passing Okanagan College before returning lakeside to the park; half marathoners complete a single loop, and the companion 8K heads north through downtown before splitting off near Broadway Avenue and Ellis Street. The course is flat and fast with minimal elevation change, making it a popular late-season Boston-qualifying attempt for runners across the Pacific Northwest. Race weekend opens Saturday, September 26, 2026, with the race expo, bib pickup, and a 1.6K Family Fun Run at City Park, followed by Sunday's marathon and half marathon start at 7:30am and the 8K start at 8:15am. The event caps off the Okanagan's warm, dry fall running season, drawing runners from across British Columbia and beyond for a scenic lakeside finish.
