LOOP Leeuwarden is the largest running and walking event in Friesland, held every year on Mother's Day (Moederdag) in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. First organized in 1985 as the Marathon van Leeuwarden, the event dropped its marathon distance after 2011 and was rebranded LOOP Leeuwarden. It now offers a 5K, a 10K, and the half marathon, alongside 6K, 12K, and 18K walking routes and two kids' runs. The 19th edition, held May 10, 2026, drew more than 14,000 participants.
The half marathon, known locally as the Dewulf Halve Marathon after its category sponsor, covers 21.1 km starting at Wilhelminaplein (Zaailand). The route passes the Achmea towers and the renovated Westersingel toward Rengerspark, loops through the flat Frisian countryside past several villages, and returns along the Dokkumer Ee to finish at the foot of the historic Oldehove tower in the city center. The course is essentially flat, typical of low-lying Friesland.
Organized by Stichting Gezonde Stad Leeuwarden, LOOP Leeuwarden combines competitive running with a festive, family atmosphere and a business team competition. The next edition is projected for Mother's Day, May 9, 2027. Official registration and pricing for that edition had not yet opened as of September 2026, so the listed date and fees reflect the confirmed 2026 pattern.
