The Lowdown

The Lucky Half Marathon is a St. Patrick's-season race weekend held each spring at Walker Place Park in Bossier City, Louisiana, on the banks of the Red River across from downtown Shreveport. Organized by Five Star Racing, the event pairs a half marathon with 5K and 10K options (plus virtual entries) on a flat, fast out-and-back course along the Red River levee and A.R. Teague Trail, with self-serve water stations every 1.5 miles. Every finisher receives a custom shamrock-themed medal, and age-group awards are given in five-year brackets. The race benefits the Noel Community Arts Program, a local youth arts nonprofit. Late March in the Ark-La-Tex region brings mild mornings in the high 40s to low 60s Fahrenheit, ideal for distance running before the humidity of a Louisiana summer sets in. The course stays close to Bossier City's Louisiana Boardwalk entertainment district and the CenturyLink/Brookshire Grocery Arena, giving runners easy access to nearby casino hotels for race-weekend lodging.
