The Lowdown
The Maratón Internacional de Buenos Aires is Argentina's biggest marathon and one of the most traditional road races in South America. Carreras y Maratones Ñandú has organised it since 1984, and it is held every September on a flat, sea-level course through the city. The course is certified by World Athletics, the race carries a World Athletics Label, and the organisers bill it as the fastest marathon in Latin America. The start and finish sit at Avenida Figueroa Alcorta and Dorrego in Palermo, with a 07:00 start in corrals seeded by expected finish time. The route runs through Palermo, Recoleta, Puerto Madero and La Boca. It passes the Obelisco on Avenida 9 de Julio, the Teatro Colón, the Casa Rosada, La Bombonera and the Costanera Sur waterfront before heading back to the Palermo parks. Runners have six hours to finish, and every finisher receives a medal. The race is open to runners aged 18 and over on race day, and entry is sold only through the ticketear.com.ar platform. Bibs are collected at the Expo Running at Parque Sarmiento in the two days before the race, with no race-day pickup except for runners who buy the VIP pass. The 2026 edition drew a record 16,384 entrants from 64 countries, and Kenya's Rebecca Kangogo Chesir set the women's course record of 2:23:36. The men's course record is 2:05:00, set by Evans Chebet in 2019.
