The Lowdown
Maratón Medellín is the marathon the organizer calls Colombia's most traditional, and it is run through the streets of Medellín in early September. The 42K starts at 5:00 a.m. from Parque de las Luces on Avenida San Juan, crosses avenues in Medellín, Envigado and Sabaneta, and finishes at the EPM building beside Parque de los Pies Descalzos. The distance is certified by World Athletics, the race is a full member of AIMS, and the organizer lists it as a Boston qualifier. Runners have six hours to finish, with intermediate cutoffs at the Sabaneta turnaround (km 28.5) and Aguacatala (km 35.7). The same weekend includes a half marathon, a 10K and a Saturday 5K, and the marathon is open to runners aged 18 and over. Water stations sit roughly every 2 km. Bib pickup happens at the EXPORUNNERS expo at Plaza Mayor, in person and with photo ID. The 2026 edition, the 32nd, drew about 6,700 marathoners; Kenya's Eric Kiprono Kiptanui and Peru's Deisy Castro won the 42K. Entries are non-refundable, and in 2026 every distance sold out before race weekend.
