Media Maratón del Mar Sistecrédito
The Lowdown
Media Maratón del Mar Sistecrédito is Cartagena de Indias' flagship road race and the traditional opener of Colombia's sports-tourism running calendar. Founded in 2018, the 2027 edition marks its 10th anniversary. The race starts before dawn at the Sociedad Portuaria de Cartagena (Port of Cartagena) with the 21K field departing at 5:20 a.m. and the 10K at 5:50 a.m. Both routes trace the shoreline of Bahía de Manga past the Club de Pesca, the colonial-era Castillo de San Felipe, the Getsemaní neighborhood, and the Torre del Reloj monument at the edge of Cartagena's UNESCO-listed walled city (Ciudad Amurallada), before finishing near Parque de la Marina. The 21K continues along Avenida Santander past the ARC Bolívar naval base and Muelle Navas with Caribbean sea views the full way. Roughly 9,000-10,000 runners take part each year, drawing entrants from more than 15 countries as well as every major Colombian city, making it one of the country's largest and most scenic road races.
