Maratona Internacional de Fortaleza
The Lowdown
The Maratona Internacional de Fortaleza is a beachfront marathon along Fortaleza's Atlantic coastline in Ceará, Brazil. Launched in April 2026 as part of the city's 300th-anniversary celebrations, the race drew roughly 10,000 runners across the marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances on a route linking Praia de Iracema, the Beira Mar seafront avenue, and the Sabiaguaba district. The 2027 edition expands to a two-day format: the 5K and 10K run on Saturday, April 10, and the half marathon and full marathon run on Sunday, April 11, with combined "Desafio Iracema" (half plus 5K/10K) and "Desafio Dragão do Mar" (full plus 5K/10K) challenge categories for runners who want to race both days. Organized by K1 Sports with the City of Fortaleza's Tourism Secretariat (Setfor), the race is expected to grow to 14,000 participants, with the marathon starting at 4:00 a.m. to beat the tropical heat along the ocean-view course.
