Maratona Internacional de Porto Alegre
The Lowdown
The Maratona Internacional de Porto Alegre is Brazil's oldest marathon, held annually since the 1980s in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Currently title-sponsored (recent editions branded 'Maratona Internacional de Porto Alegre Olympikus'), the 42nd edition runs June 5-6, 2027 as a race weekend: shorter distances (half marathon, 10K, 5K, and a kids' race) on Saturday, June 5, followed by the full marathon on Sunday, June 6. The 2026 edition introduced a redesigned, near-flat course (only 14m of accumulated elevation gain, among the flattest in Brazil), running along the Orla do Guaíba waterfront and through the historic Mercado Público in the city center. The race draws international elite fields and is organized around a start/finish and expo hub at BarraShoppingSul.
