Maratona Monumental de Brasília
The Lowdown
The Maratona Monumental de Brasília is Brazil's only marathon in the international Mega Finisher – South America Run Series and one of the largest, most important road races in South America, drawing more than 10,000 runners from roughly 40 countries in its 2026 edition (its 7th). The race starts and finishes on the Esplanada dos Ministérios and runs along the Eixo Monumental, the modernist axis at the heart of Brasília designed by Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, passing the city's iconic postcard landmarks — a course made possible only by Brasília's UNESCO World Heritage-listed urban plan. The 42.195 km course is flat, fast, and World Athletics/AIMS-certified, with low elevation gain that makes it a popular index and personal-best attempt for elite and sub-elite runners. Aid stations are placed every 2.5 km along the route. The event weekend (November 21-22) also includes 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon (21.097 km) races, with the full marathon run on race Sunday during the cooler early hours of Brasília's spring.
