Marshall University Marathon
The Lowdown
The Marshall University Marathon is West Virginia's largest marathon, run each fall through Huntington on a flat, fast, USATF-certified course widely used for Boston Qualifier attempts. The race starts on 3rd Avenue beside the football stadium and loops through downtown Huntington, passing Pullman Square, the Ohio River, and Ritter Park before returning to campus. Its signature finish sends runners onto the Joan C. Edwards Stadium field, where each marathoner carries a football down the turf to a goal-line finish line. Along the way, marathoners can stop to place a flower at the Marshall University Memorial Fountain, a tribute tied to the university's history. The event also offers a half marathon and a 3.25-mile run/walk on race day, all finishing on the same stadium field. Entry requires membership in the Tug Valley Road Runners Club, which can be added during registration.
