Muscat Marathon
The Lowdown
The Muscat Marathon is Oman's flagship road race and the country's premier full marathon, run each January along the capital's Arabian Sea coastline with a 6:00 AM start to beat the desert heat. The AIMS-certified 42.2 km course showcases Muscat's coastal and mountain backdrops and anchors a two-day running festival that also features a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, fun run and kids' runs. Launched in 2012 with just 135 runners, the event has grown into a festival drawing close to 13,000 participants from more than 100 nationalities. Its branding has evolved with its sponsors: for several years it ran as the 'Al Mouj Muscat Marathon' (named for the Al Mouj Muscat waterfront development), and it has more recently carried title sponsorship as the 'Experience Oman Muscat Marathon,' with individual distances also fronted by partner sponsors (for example the 2026 full marathon was staged as the 'Sohar International Marathon'). It is organised by SABCO Sports. Because the sponsor branding changes frequently, the race is catalogued here under its stable, sponsor-neutral name, Muscat Marathon.
