Run In Marseille
The Lowdown
Run In Marseille is the city's flagship full-distance marathon, organized by A.S.O. (Amaury Sport Organisation) in partnership with Harmonie Mutuelle. It is a distinct event from the well-known Marseille-Cassis road race, which is a 20.3 km point-to-point run held in October and does not offer a marathon distance. Run In Marseille's marathon, half marathon, and relay all start together on the Esplanade du J4 at the foot of the MUCEM (Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée), next to the Vieux-Port, with shorter distances (10K and 6K) starting later the same morning. The marathon course is a single loop tracing Marseille's Mediterranean waterfront and emblematic neighborhoods, historically finishing at the Vieux-Port in front of the Hôtel de Ville, and has in past editions passed the Orange Vélodrome stadium, Parc Borély, Place Castellane, and the Corniche Kennedy coastal road, with Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica visible above the city for much of the route. The event is held in late March and typically draws roughly 900+ marathon finishers alongside several thousand more across its half marathon, 10K, and 6K fields, making it Marseille's largest running festival outside of Marseille-Cassis.
