Sioux Falls Marathon
The Lowdown
The Sioux Falls Marathon is South Dakota's premier marathon weekend, held annually in downtown Sioux Falls since the Sioux Falls Sports Authority founded the event in 2012. Now powered by Sanford Health, the USATF-certified, Boston Qualifying course starts at the Sioux Falls Arena and finishes on the track at Howard Wood Field, winding past the falls at Falls Park and following the city's paved bike trail system along the way. The race weekend also includes a half marathon and a Miracle 5K, with a portion of net proceeds benefiting the Sanford Children's Miracle Network, which raised more than $20,000 for local children in 2024. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, September 20, with the full marathon starting at 6:45am CDT and a 6-hour-30-minute course cutoff. Runners must be at least 16 years old on race day. Registration for the full marathon is open online through RunSignup, priced from $107 for a solo entry (a Full Marathon + 5K dual entry is also available), with prices increasing after August 30, 2026. All entry fees are non-refundable and do not roll over to a future year, though bibs can be transferred to another runner through the registrant's online profile. An expo and in-person packet pickup take place the day before the race, on Saturday, September 19.
