Ulaanbaatar Marathon
The Lowdown
The Ulaanbaatar Marathon is Mongolia's largest running event, organized by the Sports and Physical Culture Department of Ulaanbaatar City and held annually on a Saturday in May. The race starts and finishes at Sukhbaatar Square in the heart of the capital, tracing an urban loop past city landmarks and steppe-edge views with Bogd Khan Mountain in the backdrop, at roughly 1,350 meters of altitude. Alongside the full 42km marathon, the event offers a 21km half marathon, a 10km run, a 5km run, and short 800m/1,500m family and Special Olympics races on the same morning, drawing tens of thousands of registrants each year and making it one of Asia's fastest-growing city marathons. The 2026 edition, the 11th running of the race, took place on May 23, 2026, with online registration through the official portal and the Hipay app.
