The Lowdown

Venloop is an annual half marathon held in Venlo, in the Dutch province of Limburg, first run in 2006. The 2027 edition on March 21 marks its 20th anniversary and is officially branded the Arrow Venloop, with the half marathon itself sponsored as the Van der Valk Hotel Half Marathon -- title sponsors have shifted over the years (the race ran as the Weir Venloop as recently as 2022). The World Athletics-certified, largely flat 21.1 km course winds through Venlo's streets along the Maas river. Venloop draws over 12,000 half marathon finishers and roughly 25,000 participants across all its distances (5K, 10K, half marathon, and youth runs) each March, making it one of the Netherlands' largest road races. It has twice hosted the Dutch National Half Marathon Championship, most recently in 2025. Course records stand at 59:44 for men and 1:07:49 for women, both set by Kenyan runners. Half marathon entries for 2027 sold out within 72 hours of registration opening on August 1, 2026.
