Wexford Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Wexford Half Marathon is an annual road race through County Wexford, organized by Bear Races and held each April on the Quays of Wexford Town. First run in the late 2000s and now marking its second decade, the race has built a reputation as one of Ireland's fastest half marathons, with the large majority of finishers recording personal bests in recent editions. Sponsorship has shifted over the years, from Pettitt's SuperValu to Life Style Sports, while the course and community feel have stayed constant. Runners start at Paul Quay Car Park on the Wexford Quays and follow a single, sheltered loop out through quiet countryside roads before returning to finish at the historic Faythe in the heart of Wexford Town. The route mixes town streets, rural lanes and glimpses of the coast, and a companion 10K runs the same morning for those covering a shorter distance. Water stations are placed along the way, the course is wheelchair accessible, and a 3.5-hour cutoff keeps the race open to walkers as well as runners. The Wexford Half Marathon sells out most years, drawing a field of roughly 3,000 runners across both distances. Entry includes a finisher's medal, event t-shirt and chip timing, with race numbers posted ahead of time for early registrants. It has become a fixture of the Irish spring running calendar and a popular target for runners chasing a personal best on a fast, well-supported course.
