Wichita River Run
The Lowdown
The Wichita River Run is an annual road race held each spring in downtown Wichita, Kansas, as the signature athletic event of the nine-day Wichita Riverfest festival. Founded in 1976, the race reached its 50th edition in 2026, making it one of the longest-running community races in the region. The event centers on a USATF-certified, record-eligible 10K and a 5K held in memory of longtime volunteer Katie Partridge, alongside a companion 5K wheelchair race, an untimed 1-mile Family Fun Run/Walk, and the youth-focused Tot Trot for ages 2 to 7. Runners start and finish on Douglas Avenue just north of the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center, on a flat, fast course along the banks of the Arkansas River past downtown Wichita landmarks including the Keeper of the Plains sculpture. Since 2019, Fidelity Bank has served as title sponsor, branding the event the Fidelity Bank River Run; organizers and locals still refer to it simply as the River Run. Every registrant receives a commemorative t-shirt, a finisher medallion, and a Riverfest button granting admission to all nine days of the surrounding festival, and free early-morning spectating is available along the course before the festival's ticketed gates open at 11 a.m. Because the 2026 edition had already concluded by the time this record was compiled, the date shown here for the next running is a projected estimate based on the event's consistent late-May/early-June, Saturday-during-Riverfest scheduling pattern.
