21K Tepic is the half marathon organized by the Ayuntamiento de Tepic, the municipal government of Tepic, Nayarit, under Mayor Geraldine Ponce. Since debuting in 2022 with roughly 350 finishers, the race has grown fast, drawing more than 1,000 runners for its fourth edition in November 2025, including entrants from Colombia, Kenya, Spain, the United States, and the Netherlands. The course starts and finishes at the Ciudad de las Artes Indigenas, at the corner of Avenida Mexico and Guadalupe Victoria, and loops through La Loma de Tepic, Avenida Mexico, Calle Alaska, and the road toward Mazatlan before returning along Avenida Insurgentes. The route is certified by the Asociacion Nayarita de Atletismo (Nayarit Athletic Association) and staffed with nine hydration stations, roughly 120 security personnel, and ambulances along the course. Race weekend opens with kit pickup at the Ciudad de las Artes Indigenas the Saturday before the race, followed by a 7:00 a.m. Sunday start. Every entrant's kit includes an event shirt (limited to the first 800 registrants), bib, finisher medal, recovery kit, on-course hydration, bag check, a post-race recovery massage, buff, and backpack. The event awards more than 300,000 pesos in cash prizes, including bonuses for the top local finishers, plus a raffle with prizes like an iPhone and AirPods; cash prizes carry a 7% tax withholding for Mexican athletes and 15% for international athletes. As a young municipal event with a fast-growing field, it suits runners looking for an accessible half marathon in western Mexico with real community support behind it.
