The Lowdown

The 3Länderlauf Basel (also called Dreiländerlauf) is a tri-national road race starting and finishing at Basel's historic Marktplatz, crossing the Rhine four times as the course runs through Switzerland (Basel), France (Saint-Louis, Huningue) and Germany (Weil am Rhein). The marathon distance was added to the event lineup starting with the 2024 edition and covers the half-marathon loop twice (42.195 km); half marathon (21.1 km) and 10 km options are also offered over the same course network with separate start times. Organized by Verein 3Länderlauf Basel, the field is capped at 3,500 total start numbers across all distances and the event typically sells out well in advance; the 2026 edition (17 May 2026, its 34th running) sold out with no waitlist ahead of race day. No next edition date had been announced as of this record's creation.
