Neujahrsmarathon Zürich

Neujahrsmarathon Zürich is an annual marathon held every New Year's Eve into New Year's Day in Schlieren, on the outskirts of Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2005, the race starts at midnight, making it the first AIMS-sanctioned marathon in the world each year, so its winners set the year's very first official national and world rankings. The course runs four 10.55 km laps along the Limmat river, with a half marathon (two laps), a 10.55K (one lap), and a marathon relay for two-to-four-person teams sharing the same route; every lap passes through the Sporthalle Unterrohr in Schlieren, the race's start, finish, and lap-through point. A free 750-meter Kids Run starts at 22:00 on December 31, ahead of the main races at midnight. The World Athletics/AIMS-certified, 90%-natural-surface course is one of only seven Swiss road races carrying AIMS sanction. The 2026 edition sold out with 1,091 runners from 50 nations racing through -8°C conditions; Tom Sanfilippo broke the men's 10.55K course record (34:05), Miro Mülli set a new men's half marathon record (1:11:15), and Philipp Arnold won the marathon for a fifth time. Registration for the 2027 edition, on January 1, 2027, opened July 1, 2026.
