Geneva Marathon
The Lowdown
The Geneva Marathon, currently branded the Generali Genève Marathon and formerly known as the Harmony Geneva Marathon for Unicef, is Switzerland's largest running weekend and the first Swiss marathon to earn a World Athletics Road Race Label. Held annually in May, the course departs from Cologny and winds through countryside, vineyards, and lakeside villages before following the shores of Lake Geneva with Alpine views, finishing at the Pont du Mont-Blanc facing the Jet d'Eau fountain in the heart of the city. The weekend draws roughly 24,000-25,000 runners across the marathon, marathon relay, half marathon, 10K, 5K, walking, and junior/family races, with about half of marathon finishers reporting a personal best. The event carries a long-standing charitable identity tied to UNICEF and children's causes (its historical Harmony/Unicef branding), and received the AIMS Social Award in 2019 for its sustainable-development commitments.
