Altötting Halbmarathon
The Lowdown
The Altötting Halbmarathon is an AIMS-certified half marathon held every September in Altötting, a Bavarian pilgrimage town about 80 km east of Munich near the Austrian border. First run in 1992, the 2026 edition is the race's 35th, and it has built a reputation as one of Germany's fastest half marathon courses: European Athletics has awarded it 5-star quality-run certification, and roughly 80% of the route runs on paved paths through the wind-sheltered Altötting Forest, with the rest through the historic town center near the Gnadenkapelle pilgrimage chapel. The course is flat, and record times reflect it — 1:01:39 for men and 1:08:38 for women. Organized pacemakers target 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, and 2:30 finishes, and five aid stations support runners along the way. Alongside the half marathon, the event includes a 6K Raiba run/walk and a 1.3K hobby run, drawing around 3,000 total participants each year. Finisher medals, free massages, and childcare are included, with race-day packet pickup at the Weiß Ferdl School.
