The Lowdown

The B.A.A. 10K is a summer road race organized by the Boston Athletic Association, the same organization behind the Boston Marathon. First run in 2011 and presented by Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, the race starts and finishes on Charles Street next to Boston Common and the Public Garden. The course heads north across the Longfellow Bridge into Cambridge, loops back along the Charles River and through Kenmore Square, and finishes along the final stretch of the Boston Marathon course on Boylston Street. Roughly 8,000 to 10,000 runners take part each year, with fields drawn from dozens of countries, and the race doubles as the second leg of the B.A.A. Distance Medley. There are no qualifying times to enter, just a minimum age of 12, which makes it one of the more accessible B.A.A. events. Race morning starts early, with Wave 1 loading at 7:30 a.m. and the gun going off at 8:00 a.m., and the finish line closes at 10:30 a.m.
