Carrera Morelia
The Lowdown
Carrera Morelia is an annual road race through the historic capital of Michoacán, staged each spring by a local promoter under the title sponsorship of Adidas, which markets the event as Carrera Adidas Morelia. The race debuted in 2025 with 5K and 10K distances and added a 21K half marathon for its second edition on April 19, 2026, when it drew roughly 5,000 runners -- among the largest fields ever assembled for a footrace in the city. The course starts and finishes at Espacio Las Américas on Avenida Enrique Ramírez and loops through Morelia's UNESCO-listed Historic Center, the modern Las Américas financial district, and Boulevard García de León before returning past the city zoo. The 21K category carries a 45,000 MXN elite cash prize purse, and every finisher across all three distances receives a commemorative medal; the event also fields inclusive wheelchair and adaptive divisions. Adidas has sponsored both editions to date through a local franchise arrangement that mirrors the brand's larger Adidas Splits race series in CDMX, Guadalajara, and Monterrey -- a relationship only two years old, so the title sponsorship could shift in future years even as the underlying Morelia race continues. The 2027 edition has not yet been formally announced; based on the race's two-year history of mid-April Sunday dates, the next edition is projected for April 18, 2027.
