The Lowdown

The Deutsche Post Marathon Bonn is a flat, fast spring marathon through the former West German capital along the Rhine River. The two-loop city course starts at Belderberg/Koblenzer Tor, crosses the Kennedy Bridge into Beuel, and returns along the riverside through the Rheinaue park before passing the Deutsche Post Tower and the Museum Mile. The second loop continues past Bonn University and the Bonner Münster cathedral, finishing at the historic Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) on Münsterplatz. Held every April since the early 2000s, the Deutsche Post Marathon Bonn is one of the largest spring marathons in western Germany: the 2026 edition sold out at a record 22,222 participants across the full event program, which also includes a half marathon, marathon relay, 10K, inline skating, handbike, and a free school marathon. The certified, largely flat course makes Bonn a popular Boston-qualifying attempt in the spring calendar. The next edition, the 24th running, takes place April 11, 2027, with a Carnival-themed celebration marking 200 years of Bonn's Karneval tradition; online registration is expected to open after the 2026 summer holidays.
