Freiburg Marathon
The Lowdown
Freiburg Marathon (branded MEIN FREIBURG MARATHON) is an annual road race held each spring in Freiburg im Breisgau, in Germany's Black Forest region, widely promoted as the country's sunniest major city. Runners cover two laps of a rolling 21.1 km circuit that starts and finishes at the Messe Freiburg exhibition grounds, tracing a route through the Seepark and Dietenbachpark, the Weingarten, Haslach, St. Georgen, and Wiehre districts, along the Dreisam river and through the Oberau into the historic old town, then back over the Wiwili Bridge and through Stühlinger to the finish. The course climbs through roughly the first half of each lap before a long descent, totaling about 200 meters of elevation gain over the full marathon. Race weekend also includes a half marathon, the AOK-Gesundheitslauf 10K, the badenova Schülermarathon for school students, and a Badeparadies mini-marathon for children, drawing a combined record of roughly 18,500 participants in 2026. Entry fees rise through three price levels as registrations fill, so runners who sign up earlier pay less than those who register close to race day. The 2027 edition is scheduled for April 4, with online registration expected to open around September 1, 2026.
