Hannover Marathon
The Lowdown
The Hannover Marathon — currently run as the ADAC Marathon Hannover under title sponsorship from ADAC Niedersachsen-Sachsen-Anhalt (the race has also carried the HAJ Marathon Hannover name in past sponsorship cycles, tied to Hannover Airport) — is one of Germany's largest spring marathons, drawing over 20,000 participants across all disciplines each April. The course is one of the flattest in the country, with only about 19-20 meters of elevation difference over the full distance, running through Hannover's city center and the Linden and Nordstadt districts. Race weekend includes an EXPO and packet pickup, a Familien-Samstag with children's and family runs, and a Sunday marathon start at 10:00 with a 6-hour (16:00) course cutoff. The race finishes near the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) area of the city center, with race weekend festivities including a carbo-loading party at the Neues Rathaus casino and a finisher party at Brauhaus Ernst-August.
