The Lowdown

The Gdańsk Marathon takes runners through the historic Polish port city of Gdańsk on a flat, largely loop-shaped course that starts and finishes at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk. Over 42.195 km the route crosses ten city districts and passes landmarks including the European Solidarity Centre, the Museum of the Second World War, and Neptune's Fountain in the Main Town, tracing the city's shipyard heritage and Solidarity-era history — the event's tagline, "Run in the City of Freedom," nods to Gdańsk's role in Poland's independence movement. First held in the early 2010s, the marathon returned in 2025 after a two-year pause with new title sponsorship from the energy company Energa, under which it is marketed locally as the ENERGA Gdańsk Maraton. The 2026 edition drew roughly 2,500 marathon finishers from about 49 countries plus 120 four-person relay teams, alongside a separate 5 km race and children's Marathon Junior runs held the day before. The course carries a modest 111 m of total elevation gain and a 5-hour-30-minute finisher time limit, with a 9:00 a.m. Sunday start. It is not a Boston Marathon-qualifying course.
