Málaga Marathon
The Lowdown
The Málaga Marathon — currently run as the Generali Maratón Málaga under title sponsorship from Generali, and previously known as the Zurich Maratón de Málaga during a prior sponsorship cycle — is Andalusia's largest city marathon, held every November along Spain's Costa del Sol. The predominantly flat course starts and finishes at Paseo del Parque near Málaga's City Hall, passing the Alcazaba Moorish fortress, the Roman Theatre, and Castillo de Gibralfaro before tracing the coastline through La Malagueta, La Caleta, Baños del Carmen, Pedregalejo, Las Acacias, and El Palo beaches. The half marathon (21K) shares the same start and finishes near Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta. Race organizers describe the current course layout as faster, flatter, and with fewer turns than prior editions, making it well suited to personal-best attempts in mild autumn weather.
