The Lowdown

The Hagener Volkslauf is an annual road race held every Ascension Day in Hagen-Emst, a neighborhood of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Organized by SC Concordia Hagen 1967 e.V., the event has run continuously since 1968; the 2026 edition was its 56th. Runners choose between a Half Marathon, a 10K, or a 6K, all starting and finishing at the Hagen-Emst marketplace. The half marathon course climbs roughly 462 meters through the scenic Märchenwald forest toward Hohenlimburg Castle before a fast descent back to the finish, earning the race its local nickname, the "Grüne Hölle von Hagen" ("Green Hell of Hagen"). Alongside the road races, the event includes a 6K walking option and a full slate of youth races from 500 meters to 2.5 kilometers. Starting in 2026, the Hagener Volkslauf also anchors the new Hagener Lauf-Cup series with the nearby Hohenlimburger Lennelauf.
