Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run

The Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run is a 10-mile (16.1 km) point-to-point road race held every May in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, running the entire length of Broad Street from North Philadelphia to the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. First run in 1980 with just 1,576 finishers, it has grown into the largest ten-mile race in the United States, with roughly 40,000 runners tackling the nearly flat, gently downhill course past Temple University, Philadelphia City Hall, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Kimmel Center before finishing inside the Navy Yard. Demand has outstripped the field cap since 2013, so entry is allocated through a lottery, with a guaranteed-entry bypass for runners who fundraise for one of the race's official charity partners, including the American Cancer Society and the American Association for Cancer Research. Independence Blue Cross has been the title sponsor since 1996. Race weekend features a health and fitness expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a wheelchair division that starts ahead of the main field, and a non-binary finisher category with prize money matching the men's and women's open divisions.
