Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run

The Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run is a 10-mile road race in Philadelphia, held each year on a Sunday in early May. The organizer has run it for 47 years and says it draws more than 40,000 participants from around the world. The course is point-to-point. It starts on Broad Street at Broad and Fisher, by the Central High School athletic field, and runs south through the city's neighborhoods to the finish in the Navy Yard. The race starts at 7 a.m., and athletes using wheelchairs start at 6:55 a.m. Runners must hold a 15-minute-per-mile pace; anyone slower is directed to the sidewalks as streets reopen. There is no age limit. Entry is by lottery through RunSignup, and selected runners are charged after the draw. In 2026, selections were announced the week of February 16 and the entry fee was $65. Runners who cannot start may defer to the following year before the April 15 deadline, but the fee is not refunded. Packet pickup is at the Health and Wellness Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on the Friday and Saturday before the race, and a photo ID is required. The City of Philadelphia stages the race through its Parks and Recreation Department, with Independence Blue Cross as title sponsor. Joshua Izewski set the men's course record of 45:08 in 2026.
