KLM Aruba Marathon
The Lowdown
The KLM Aruba Marathon is an AIMS/World Athletics-certified race that starts and finishes on the beach at the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort in Oranjestad, Aruba, tracing the island's turquoise coastline from Eagle Beach through the high-rise hotel strip to the California Lighthouse. Runners choose from four distances -- 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon -- with the marathon completing the half-marathon loop twice before all distances finish together on the sand. To beat the Caribbean heat, the full marathon starts at 3:00 am, the half marathon at 5:15 am, and the 10K at 6:15 am, while the 5K runs the evening before. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has been the event's title sponsor since its 2018 debut, and the race now draws thousands of runners from dozens of countries each June. Every finisher receives a medal, and the course offers 14 hydration stations for marathoners, several stocked with Powerade and bananas.
