The Lowdown
The Kuala Lumpur Marathon (officially the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon, KLSCM) is Malaysia's largest road marathon and one of Southeast Asia's best-known running weekends. It began in 2009 with Standard Chartered Bank as title sponsor and holds a World Athletics Elite Label. The event runs over two days in early October. The 10 km and 5 km races take place on the Saturday, and the full marathon and half marathon on the Sunday, with the marathon flagged off in the pre-dawn hours at 3:30 AM from Dataran Merdeka. Entry is priced separately for Malaysian residents and non-Malaysian residents. The 2026 edition, the 18th, drew about 43,800 participants including roughly 3,600 international runners from 53 countries, and served as the official preliminary selection event for the SEA Games 2027 marathon. Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes lead the open elite fields. The 2026 winners were Ezekiel Kemboi of Kenya (2:21:19) and Alemitu Ajema Lema of Ethiopia (2:39:29).
