Langkawi International Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Langkawi International Half Marathon is the flagship road race of Malaysia's Langkawi island, staged for its 5th edition on 12 December 2026 and carrying a World Athletics Road Race Label. Start and finish sit inside the air-conditioned Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), a rare shelter from the tropical heat before dawn and after the finish. The 21.0975 km course heads out before sunrise through Langkawi's rural interior, tracing paddy fields and open plains with the island's forested limestone karsts as a backdrop, and has a gentle total elevation profile of roughly 80 meters, making it a genuine personal-best course despite the heat and humidity. A companion 10 km race runs the same morning over a shorter loop. Both distances are open to international entrants (minimum age 18) alongside Malaysian Open and Malaysian Senior local categories, with finisher medals, timing chips, event t-shirts, and race-morning refreshments included, and cash prizes for the top overall and age-group finishers. Only 5,000 total slots are released for public registration each year, and the event typically sells through a short priority-registration window before opening to the general public.
