Legends Marathon
The Lowdown
The Legends Marathon is a mass-participation road race held annually in Kampala, Uganda every April, honoring the country's retired and active sporting legends while raising funds for athlete career transitions. Launched in November 2023 by sports journalist Andrew Mwanguhya and organized by Impact Sport Association Limited, the event pairs road racing with the year-round "Beyond The Finish" program, offering financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and mental health support to athletes moving on from competitive careers. Runners choose 5K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon distances through the streets of Kampala, finishing with a medal regardless of placing. The 2026 edition started at Kyambogo Cricket Oval on April 19, drawing elite athletes, emerging talent, and recreational runners together under the theme "Run For Your Legend," with the next edition projected for mid-April 2027 on the event's established annual cadence. Entry costs UGX 50,000 (approximately US$13) across all distances.
