Maratón Baja California

Maratón Baja California is the long-running state marathon of Baja California, organized in Mexicali by the Instituto del Deporte y la Cultura Física de Baja California (INDE BC) with the endorsement of the Federación Mexicana de Asociaciones de Atletismo (FMAA). The 2026 race is the 60th edition, a milestone the organizers mark as six decades of the event. The race is traditionally held on a Sunday in early December. The 42.195 km route is certified by World Athletics, AIMS and the FMAA. It runs along the main streets and avenues of Mexicali, starting and finishing at Ciudad Deportiva. The marathon for athletes with disabilities starts first, with wheelchair, blind and low-vision, and deaf divisions, and the open marathon and relay go off five minutes later. The relay is a non-competitive event for teams of four adults: three legs of 10 km and a final leg of 12.195 km. Entry has cost 200 Mexican pesos in recent editions, with registration opening online through indebc.gob.mx about a month before race day and closing a few days before it. There is no race-day registration or bib pickup, and every runner must be at least 18. The cash prize purse has topped 600,000 pesos, with bonuses for breaking the course record and for the best Baja California resident in each division. Mexicali's desert climate gives cool, dry mornings at that time of year.
