Maratón Internacional de Hermosillo

Maratón Internacional de Hermosillo is the marquee running event of Sonora, held each fall in the state capital with start and finish at Plaza Zaragoza in the heart of downtown Hermosillo. The 2026 edition marks the race's tenth anniversary and is sanctioned by World Athletics and AIMS, drawing elite Mexican and international competitors alongside thousands of recreational runners across four distances: Maratón (42.2 km), Medio Maratón (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km.

Organized by Maratones Sonora, the race is a showcase for the city's desert character - flat, fast city streets ringed by the Sonoran Desert, with a warm, dry late-autumn morning that gives way to hot midday sun. Runners pass near Hermosillo's colonial-era Catedral de la Asunción and the historic Palacio de Gobierno before finishing back at Plaza Zaragoza. The event pays out more than 500,000 pesos in prize money, including bonuses for the top Sonoran finishers, and offers a "Corredor con Causa" charity entry that supports the Internado Cruz Gálvez orphanage and the Fundación Creando Sonrisas VK. With chip timing, aid stations, and a Friday-Saturday kit pickup at Plaza Zaragoza, the race combines serious competitive structure with the community pride Hermosillo brings to its biggest annual sporting event.
