Marathon des Terroirs du Valais

The Marathon des Terroirs du Valais (also known as the Valais Vineyard Marathon) is a point-to-point road marathon run through the Rhone valley in canton Valais, Switzerland, from Sion to Martigny. The 42.195 km course is flat and fast (about 60 m of gain and 110 m of loss, net downhill) and is fully certified by Swiss Athletics, winding past orchards, vineyards and small villages before finishing at Martigny Expo. Alongside the marathon, the event - sponsored by Banque Cantonale du Valais (BCVS) - offers a half marathon, 10K (with a walking option), the 5K "Trott'aux Fous," an Ekiden relay, and family and kids' races looping through Martigny. Known as "the craziest marathon in Switzerland," the race leans into a festive, costumed theme each year (the 2026 edition, its fifth, celebrated the 1980s) and belongs to the "Challenge de la Convivialite" label for events that pair performance with local food, music and conviviality at aid stations stocked with Valais terroir products. The event regularly draws several thousand runners across all distances. The next edition is scheduled for May 22-23, 2027, with the marathon starting in Sion and finishing at Martigny Expo.
