Maratón de Badajoz
The Lowdown
The Maratón de Badajoz is an annual marathon and half marathon held in Badajoz, the capital of Extremadura in western Spain, near the Portuguese border. The 2027 race is the 33rd running of the marathon and the 11th running of its companion half marathon, organized by the Fundación Municipal de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Badajoz. Both races start and finish at the C.D.M. La Granadilla athletics track on Avenida José Miguel Sánchez Hueso: the marathon covers a flat 42.195 km urban circuit starting at 9:00 a.m., while the 21.097 km half marathon starts at 10:30 a.m. The course is almost entirely flat, running at an altitude between 168 and 178 meters, and passes historic Badajoz landmarks including the Alcazaba fortress and the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. Entries for each distance are capped at 1,000 bibs and are processed online through ChipSerena. Runners who do not live in Badajoz can also pick up their bib on race morning at C.D.M. La Granadilla.
