Maratón de Sevilla
The Lowdown
The Maratón de Sevilla (Zurich Maratón de Sevilla) is one of Spain's premier winter marathons, first held in the late 20th century and grown into a major international event that routinely attracts elite fields and mass-participation runners. Held each February, the race has built a reputation for fast times and a strong organizational history, serving as a frequently used qualifying opportunity for global marathons. Over the years it has become a staple on the European road-racing calendar and a marquee sporting event for the city of Sevilla. The flat, fast course threads through Sevilla's most iconic landmarks and along the banks of the Río Guadalquivir, offering sweeping views of historic architecture including the Torre del Oro, the Cathedral area, and the lush parks that line the route. Runners enjoy wide, smooth streets, long sightlines, and several sunlit stretches that help maintain rhythm, making the course attractive for personal bests and qualifying attempts. The atmosphere is festive and distinctly Andalusian: brass bands, local volunteers, and cheering crowds create a warm, lively environment from the start to the finish in central Sevilla. The marathon is AIMS-certified and is recognized as a Boston Marathon qualifying course.

The Sevilla Marathon is known as a very flat, fast course that often produces personal bests and attracts an international elite field.
The route runs through Sevilla's historic center and alongside the Guadalquivir River, passing landmarks such as the Giralda, Plaza de España and the Torre del Oro.
Race weekend includes an international running expo, a pre-race pasta party and a popular 1km kids' race, and finishers receive a technical shirt and a commemorative finisher medal.
There are aid stations approximately every 5 km offering water, sports drink and gels, a secure bag-drop at the start/finish area, and organizers recommend using public transport to reach the start due to limited parking in the historic center.
