The Lowdown

The Maratón Internacional de Juárez is Chihuahua's only major marathon and the signature sporting event of the border city of Ciudad Juárez. Founded in 2010 and now in its 15th edition, the race is certified and homologated by Mundo de Atletismo en México (MAM), World Athletics, and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Runners start and finish near the former Ex-Hipódromo, at the intersection of Avenida Antonio J. Bermúdez and Prolongación Vicente Guerrero, with the Marathon and Recreational Relay departing at 6:00 a.m. and the Half Marathon following 30 to 45 minutes later. The course covers 42.195 km for the full distance and 21.0975 km for the half, plus a three-runner Recreational Relay option covering the same marathon route. A strict 6-hour cutoff applies, with checkpoint pacing of at least 8:30 per kilometer required to stay in the race. Past editions have featured Rarámuri ambassador runners, distributed roughly 2,000,000 Mexican pesos in prize money including a vehicle giveaway, and supported local causes such as Fundación Unidos por el Autismo. Foreign entrants need a federation endorsement letter and proof of legal stay in Mexico. Registration opens each April online at maratondejuarez.com and closes October 9, with a discounted in-person fee for entrants 60 and older who present INAPAM identification.
